Henri's Volunteering Voyage

At almost 80 years young, Henri knows a thing or two about the beauty of giving back. As a dedicated volunteer at the Ulverscroft Tea Rooms charity shop, he’s not just sorting through book donations; he’s nurturing a vibrant community spirit while keeping himself active.

For Henri and countless others, supporting causes such as the Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation offers a deeply rewarding way to channel life skills and experience into something meaningful.

Michelle’s Voluntary & Community Sector Volunteering Journey

Michelle has dedicated her Tuesdays from 1 PM to 3 PM at the Meeting Place Mental Health Café, a role she enthusiastically embraced after facing personal challenges.

Her journey to volunteerism illustrates the transformative power of giving back to the community while engaging in fulfilling activities.

Following a job loss, Michelle felt compelled to seek out opportunities that would not only help her reintegrate into a routine but also provide her with a sense of purpose. Michelle explains, during her initial visit to the RCC HUB in Hinckley, she encountered Richard, who introduced her to various volunteering opportunities. It was the mention of crafting that particularly resonated with her passion.

“I jumped at the chance to pass on my skills and knowledge to the clients at the Café,” she remarks. Michelle describes her experience as “brilliant.”

Drawing upon her background as an ex-nurse, she finds great satisfaction in assisting the clients who attend the café. This unique blend of her nursing expertise and her passion for crafting has allowed her to create meaningful connections with the attendees.

“I've been able to help the clients that attend the café,” she notes, highlighting her dual role as both a facilitator and a supporter.

"Volunteering has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I've met amazing people and made a real difference in my community. Bridging a gap in my work CV whilst volunteering through the Voluntary & Community Sector gave me the confidence and skills to  successfully obtain 2 part time jobs”

VCS Volunteer, Gary

look forward to volunteering, I enjoy the company of the people/volunteers I'm working with whilst learning new skills & making a difference in my community. Hinckley & Bosworth VCS partnership were very helpful & helped find me this role. I am very thankful to them”

“I found that getting into volunteering within the local community as well as attending the Earl Shilton Neighbourhood Mental Health Café has helped me considerably in getting back on track, whilst giving something back. I'd recommend it to anyone thinking of getting in touch”

VCS Volunteer, Les

I volunteer at the charity shop to stay active & use the skills I've gained over my lifetime to support a cause I care about.

It provides a wonderful sense of purpose whilst keeping me active. I really enjoy the social side of volunteering, interacting and meeting other people with

similar interests”
